List of lieutenant governors of South Carolina
The following list shows all the Lieutenant Governor of the U.S. state of South Carolina (Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina) from 1730 up to present. In South Carolina, the vice-governor and the governor are elected separately and not together as in other states. Therefore, the Lieutenant Governor may belong to a different political party than the governor.
Royal Period (1729-1776)
The office of lieutenant governor was created in 1729 by the British government under the supervision of the Board of Trade. The first lieutenant-governor was Thomas Broughton and he took office on 1 January 1730. Before that, the governor appointed a Deputy Governor, who acted in his absence his place. There were only three Vice Governors during the royal period, where two of them were father and son.

The General Assembly elected the Vice- Governor for a two year term.

Lieutenant Governor under the Constitution of 1865
The first Constitution of South Carolina, which provided for direct election of the Vice- Governor.
