The following list outlines the counts, dukes and grand dukes of Luxembourg in chronological order, broken down by the reigning dynasties.

Luxembourg was until 1795 part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. His dynasty provided several Roman- German Emperor in the late Middle Ages. In the 15th century it fell through purchase initially to the Dukes of Burgundy, then by marriage to the House of Habsburg. Under the Habsburgs, it first belonged to the Spanish, then to the Austrian Netherlands. From 1795 to 1815 the country was the French Département des Forêts. The Congress of Vienna presented Luxembourg 1815 as an independent Grand Duchy restores. The country was until 1866 a member of the German Federal and remained until 1890 in personal union with the Kingdom of the Netherlands combined.

Counts of Luxembourg

  • Siegfried I, 963-998, Count of Moselle district from the home of the Dukes of Lorraine, exchanged with the Abbey of St. Maximin in Trier lands in Feulen against the goat rocks in the Alzette

When Konrad II died childless, the only son of William I and since William's brother Henry III. was previously died childless, Luxembourg is at the behest of Frederick Barbarossa Henry IV, called the blind man, over. His mother was the daughter of Conrad I Ermesinde and sister of Henry III. and William I, and aunt of Conrad II She was married in first marriage to Albert II of Dabo and in second marriage with Godfrey of Namur ( 1068 † 1139 ), the father of Henry the blind. It is Luitgard (1120 † 1170 ), the sister of Conrad II, married to Henry II Count of Grandpré ( 1125 † 1211 ), as well as Hugo passed over by Dabo, the son Ermesindes from her first marriage.
