List of municipal districts in Alberta

The Canadian province of Alberta is divided into so-called Municipal District. These exist as administrative entities in addition to the ( geographical ) regions and are summarized for statistical purposes to Census Divisions. Many of Municipal Districts bear the notion County in their name, even though the County administrative unit has been abolished in the 90s in Alberta.

There also exist in Alberta also three Specialized municipalitys (1 ), three Special Areas (2) and seven improvement districts ( 3), mainly comprising the territories of national parks. These special management units are identified in the table with the number in parentheses.

On January 1, 2012, the Improvement District No.. 349 are formed from parts of the Lac La Biche County and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
