List of municipalities of Greece (2011)

Greece is divided since January 1, 2011 in 13 regions and 325 municipalities. By Kallikratis Act 240 municipalities were newly formed through the merger of previously existing smaller communities. Apart from Crete and Euboea, the Greek islands are no longer divided into municipalities and usually form a single community. The 1,034 existing communities that had emerged by the Kapodistrias program of 1997 before nearly 6,000 municipalities, municipal districts exist as continuing. In addition to data on area and population, the following list contains the membership of the communities to the (2011 abolished ) prefectures and municipal districts or municipalities predecessor.
