List of political parties in Benin

This article gives an overview of the political parties in Benin. The West African state of Benin has a multi-party system. According to the Foreign Office political parties still play in Benin only a minor role, compared with individual personalities and ethnic or regional character house powers.

A study by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in 2005 speaks of 150 political parties in Benin, but none of them is really represented nationwide. However, there is a trend for association of parties to electoral alliances have seen, which has the consequence that has halved in the number of parties in the national parliament from 24 in 1991 to currently still 12.

From 1961 to 1963, the Rassemblement Démocratique du Dahomey was the only party in the former Republic Dahomey - from 1975 to 1990, the People's Revolutionary Party of Benin, the Unity Party in the People's Republic of Benin.
