List of political parties in Ethiopia
Political parties in Ethiopia, there is de facto only since 1984, previously also existed various liberation and resistance organizations.
From 1889 to 1974 ruled in Ethiopia, Emperor Menelik II, Iyasu V, the Empress and Emperor Haile Selassie I. Zauditu. During the years 1936-1941 there was an interruption by the crew of the Italians. Here Ethiopia suffered the atrocities of the fascist party. After that political parties were not allowed in the kingdom of Abyssinia. From 1974 to 1984, there was the military until 1991 Ethiopia was a one-party state with the Workers' Party of Ethiopia ( Worker's Party of Ethiopia, abbreviation WPE ) as a single party, opposition parties could only underground or in exile exist.
After the fall of the Mengistu regime, there were up to the election to the Constituent Verfasslung on the fifth day of June 1994, a transitional government with a provisional parliament. The first real elections took place on May 7, on 18 and 28 June 1995. Here ( Parlama short called ) the first members of the People's House of Representatives were elected. Since then, there were elections in 2000, 2005 and 2010. Parliament House, whose members are representatives of the regions, was elected in 2000 and 2005.
