List of Prime Ministers of India

At its independence in 1947 India adopted the form of government to a parliamentary federal republic with a Prime Minister at the head of government and a president as head of state with mostly ceremonial duties.

Up to now ask the Prime Minister of India three different parties. Of all the previous Government, Jawaharlal Nehru was at 17 years the longest in office. It is followed by the only female Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi 16 years.
