List of public works ministries

A Ministry of Public Works were and are in different states. Most of them were or are responsible for the establishment and expansion of state infrastructure, such as roads, rail networks, canal and river regulation and the standardization of weights and measures.

Examples

Belgium

The " Ministerie van Public Works " was established on January 13, 1837 as the sixth Belgian Ministry. Through the reform of the state from 1988 to 1989, the responsibility for this area was transferred to the regions. By Royal Order of 27 June 1990, the Ministry was abolished.

China

The " Ministry of Public Works " (Chinese工部, Pinyin Gongbu ) was one of the six ministries of imperial China.

It existed in this form of the Tang Dynasty ( 618-907 ) until the overthrow of the monarchy 1911. Previously, his work was carried out, inter alia, by the Board of Supervisors for agriculture, in the Song period at times by the Finance Committee.

Otherwise, the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Works has been amended several times; under the Ming Dynasty, it included, inter alia,

  • The construction of state buildings

France

In France in 1837 was the Ministry of Public Works ( Ministère des Travaux Publics ) of the Direction générale des ponts et chaussées ( " Directorate General of Bridges and Roads" ).

Italy

The Italian Ministry of Public Works ( ministero dei lavori pubblici ) was born in 1848 in the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. From this kingdom went forth in 1861 the Italian nation-state, which is why the Ministry in that year was Italian. 2001, the Ministry was merged with the traffic for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Japan

The system established in late 1870, " Ministry of Public Works " (工部 省, Kobu- shō ) was one of the ministries in Dajōkan in the early Meiji period. The Dajōkan was the modernization of Japan during the first variant of the reactivated Daijōkan, established under the Chinese model in the 7th century administrative structure. The Ministry was responsible for the introduction of Western technologies, especially for the modernization of industrial and mining enterprises and the communications and transport infrastructure, including the planning of the first railway line in Japan. The end of 1885 it was disbanded with the creation of the modern Cabinet. The tasks of the Kobu- shō took over the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce.

Austria - Hungary

In Austria - Hungary there until the end of the monarchy also a kk Ministry of Public Works for the Cisleithanian part of the empire. It was continued as the state Office of Public Works until 1919 and then dissolved, and the matters subordinate to the Ministry of Commerce. Also in 1945 there was a short term State Office of Public Works, which was then incorporated into the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Reconstruction.

Prussia

On April 17, 1878, separated by Otto von Bismarck in the Prussian government by the former Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Public Works, the " Ministry of Public Works ." This Ministry focused primarily on the railways and waterways. First Minister was Albert von Maybach.

Spain

In Spain, there were 1931 to 1991, the Ministro de Obras Authorities and Urbanismo. It was then with the merged with the Ministry of Transport to the Ministerio de Obras Públicas, Transportes y Medio Ambiente, and is now the Ministerio de Fomento ( Ministry of Infrastructure ).
