List of railway companies in Switzerland
This list shows the Swiss railway companies. As a railway company within the meaning of this list railway infrastructure companies ( EIU own route) and railway undertakings (RUs, with trains route is longer ( safety certificate required) ).
Railway companies, which are not their own routes have ( as Cisalpino, Hupac or the former Lokoop ), unless they are approved as RU listed separately below the table. Are not listed in the rule, the operator of sidings ( Company with rail connection for freight ).
The lists include the names of railway and tramway companies after the official spelling, that is, primarily by the spelling of the Swiss Commercial Register. It must be remembered that the names are often registered in only one language in the Swiss Commercial Register, the local language ( German, French, Italian and Romansh ), in which the company has its seat. The corresponding name corresponds almost exclusively to the entries in the lists of the Federal Office of Transport (FOT ), which authorize the proposed rail and tram companies names and corresponding abbreviations. This official abbreviation consists of up to six letters.
In addition to the companies with routes and / or own (or leased) engine vehicles, there are still some pure car holder, such as the WASCOSA, or so-called combined transport operators, such as ICF. These have only railway cars, are not actually transport companies in the narrower sense and must not drive yourself trains because they do not have a safety certificate. They are not considered actual railway companies and are therefore not included in these lists.

Narrow-gauge
Because of the mountainous topography many paths have been created in Switzerland as a narrow gauge railways with 1000mm gauge, partly also with other gauges. Thus was formed, for example, in the Alps, an interconnected network of approximately 530 kilometers of track length, which is now operated by the Rhaetian Railway and the Matterhorn- Gotthard -Bahn. Even in the pre-Alps and the Jura many tracks were created in meter gauge, plus many urban suburban railways and most tram lines.
