Duchy of Bavaria as a territorial state
After the overthrow of Henry the Lion in 1180, Emperor Frederick Barbarossa Bavaria to the House of Wittelsbach. After 907 the younger baierische dukedom was created, already the Duchy of Carinthia was cleaved 976 and 1156, the Duchy of Austria. In 1180 finally also the Duchy of Styria was separated. The 1180 has shrunk to today's Old Bavaria Duchy won thus increasingly the character of late medieval-themed territorial state.
