List of rulers of the Northern state of Dagomba

As a sovereign state, the Kingdom existed for nearly 500 years. From 1409 to about 1899 in 1899, it was (see Togoland ) subject to the UK (see Gold Coast ( Colony ) ) or German colonial rule. This late colonization had, inter alia, to do with the fact that the Dagombareich in a disputed area between the British and the Germans, the so-called Salaga area, lay. From 1744 to mid-19th century Dagomba was also the Ashanti Kingdom tribute.

Even today, the tradition of Dagombakönigtums are alive. As Dagbon Traditional Kingdom the Dagombakönigtum is officially recognized and forms a parallel structure to the institutions of modern Ghana. The Kingdom of the Dagomba has traditional administrative responsibilities for different ethnicities akephale their area, ie for those ethnic groups that have no institutionalized domination, but are led by elders and take their decisions by consensus. That represents about Konkomba that Bimoba that Chakosi that Basaari, the Chamba and the Zantasi. These ethnic minorities have a say in the UK, but often feel discriminated against, which has resulted in the 90's to bloody riots (see here).

The three nations Mossi, Mamprusi and Dagomba have built great empires in the 14th and 15th in today's Burkina Faso and northern Ghana, which are often aggregated due to cultural affinity and similar structures under the name Mossi states. It is next to the Dagombakönigreich to the realms Yatenga, Ouagadougou, Gulmu and Mamprusireich.
