Oxwich is one of the most famous places on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales. Located on the southern coast of the peninsula at the Oxwich Bay and with only a few hundred inhabitants, Oxwich has received despite the streams of visitors his character largely as idyllic village. Oxwich has a larger tourist complex as well as variety of solitary cottages that are scattered over a large area in and around the town, as well as a caravan park on the northern edge of the village. Due to the strong frequency, for the most part daily visitors from Swansea and Cardiff, the place and the beach is a tourist expression like few places in Gower. Also one of the largest hotels on Gower, Gower Bay Hotel is, located right on the beach. Here also facilities for water sports such as surfing and sailing are given. If you leave the first section of the beach from the car park behind and oriented more towards Three Cliffs, one can even find on warm summer weekends, quiet and clean places to swim. Due to the flat curve of the beach into the sea Oxwich is particularly suitable for families with children and widely used. The large number of visitors also allows a tourist infrastructure for providing food food and drink in Oxwich.

Other features

Worth seeing in Oxwich are still originating from the 13th and 14th century church of St. Illtyd, as well as, the hillside Oxwich Castle, a mansion from the 16th century can be visited. The northern outskirts location Penrice Castle, seen from the road A4118, is no longer accessible since fallen into disrepair and on private land.

About Swimming and water addition, Oxwich offers an ideal starting point for numerous hiking on the Peninsula. To run signposted hiking trails to the west to Port Eynon and Rhossili, in a northerly direction until after Burry Green and on to Llanmadoc. In eastern direction walks on Southgate and Caswell to Mumbles and Swansea are possible. The regular bus services from all directions, leading to a large extent on Oxwich, including extended day trips are possible to the end again in Oxwich.
