Lister Storm LMP at the 1000 km of Spa 2005
The Lister Storm LMP is a Le Mans prototype built by Lister in the UK.
The management of the British race car manufacturer Lister decided already in the 1990s to build a vehicle for the large class of prototypes to be LMP 1 cars for this class today usually stick to the rules of ACO for the 24 Hours of Le Mans designed and can therefore go in the ALMS and the Le Mans Series at the start.
Lister had indeed gained enough experience in building sports cars by the Lister Storm GT, a concentration on the prototype was never a lack of resources but to take place. Thus, the LMP in 2004 came to a race. Among the 6 Hours of Vallelunga - a sports car race that had no status Championship - won the car. However, the two riders Stefano Zonca and Angelo Lancellotti competed only against less powerful LMP2 cars, group CN and various GT classes. The Storm LMP, an open prototype was powered by a Chevrolet V8 engine. 2005 cars in suspension and chassis has been improved, now partially corresponded to the future applicable regulations of ACOs. These vehicles, also referred to as a hybrid, allowing the ACO until the introduction of the new regulations of 2007 more power with less weight. However, the performance of the car was not better. After a start waiver in Le Mans, triggered by a serious training accident, the car was at the 1000 km of Silverstone debut with a 18th place. Only the 6-hour race at Vallelunga the car for a long time ran flawlessly. A broken suspension just before the end, but would have almost the second place, which was finally reached prevented.
2006 was not a successful year for the Storm LMP. The original idea, to contest the entire season of the Le Mans Series, failed because of the still unresolved childhood diseases to drive and transmission. At the start of the season Justin Keen, Nicolas Kiesa and Jens Møller drove up to third place overall in the shortened 1000 km race from Istanbul ( the race had after two -thirds to be stopped because enough fuel from the track operator could not be provided. ). However, lacked seven laps on the winning Pescarolo C60, moreover, the driver trio was also overtaken by the class winners of the less powerful LMP2 class. A serious accident at the 1000 km of Spa- Francorchamps and a completely verpatztes race in Le Mans were a fresh setback. 2007 should the Storm LMP is completely rebuilt. Lister undertook the former Bentley and Radical designer Peter Elleray and earned a Pescarolo chassis. Elleray modified it and replaced the Chevrolet by a Judd engine. Although the base is now a Pescarolo, given the ACO homologation of the vehicle as Lister Judd. The race at Le Mans had to be omitted because the car did not timely was completed. The debut of the new car, announced for the 1000 km of Spa, is yet to be established.
