Listuguj Mi'gmaq First Nation

Listuguj is the name of the sub- tribe of the eastern Canadian Mi'kmaq First Nation and the name of a town at the mouth of the Restigouche in the province of Quebec. The Listuguj are the indigenous people of the Baie des Chaleurs and Restigouchetals. The place is also Listuguj tribal, administrative and reservation center. In their language, the word Listuguj means "land of five fingers ," meaning the five tributaries of the Restigouche are meant. European Siert from Restigouche has evolved.

The former tribal area of Listuguj had the name Gespegeoag, pronounced Gespe ` washed ` gi, which in their language " the last country " means and namesake of the town of Gaspé, Gaspésie and the St. Lawrence Gulf peninsula.
