Litchfield is a city in Montgomery County, Illinois, USA. At the census in 2000 6815 inhabitants were counted. The city is located about 100 km north of St. Louis on Interstate Highway 55, which connects St. Louis with Chicago. Litchfield was named after one of its founders, Electus Backus Litchfield.

Previously Litchfield was an important way station on Route 66 The Ariston Cafe is one of the oldest surviving restaurants on the historic route. It was first opened in 1924 located 20 kilometers away Carlinville, but was later moved to its present location. The Ariston Cafe was inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame in 1992 and today is a popular stop for Route 66 tourists.

Another starting point is Litchfield 's Lake Lou Yaeger, a recreational, sporting and fishing area northeast of the city. The SkyView Drive-In in Illinois is also a member of the Route 66 Hall of Fame and has existed since 1951.
