The Liteiny Bridge (Russian Литейный мост ) crosses the Neva river in Saint Petersburg. It combines the Vyborg Side with the city center.
In the area of Liteiny bridge the Neva River has reached its maximum depth of 24 m.
During construction of the bridge were first used in Russia caissons. The construction was accompanied by several accidents. 1876 water penetrated into a caisson, drowned while five workers. 1877 another nine workers died in an explosion at a caisson.
On September 30, 1879, the bridge was completed. During the opening ceremony, the architect Amand Struve Jegorowitsch was promoted to major general.
