Lithium, C17H35COOLi is the lithium salt of stearic acid and one of the metal soaps. The colorless, almost non-water - and alcohol-soluble powder having a melting point of 220 ° C is mainly employed for the preparation of greases and waxes from oils. The resulting greases are thermally stable to about 150 ° C and remain to -20 ° C lubricity. This is the largest quantitative application of the metal lithium. In lesser amounts of lithium is also used for production of pencils. The toxicity of the compound after oral administration is very low, which is why it is also used in cosmetic products.
