Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra

The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra ( lit. Lietuvos kamerinis orkestras, LKO ) is an established 1960 Chamber Orchestra of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. It was founded by Saulius Sondeckis. The first performance took place on 30 April 1960. The orchestra usually plays works of Lithuanian composers and artists such as Alfred Schnittke, Arvo Pärt and Peters Vasks. Until 2004 was the LKO part of the National Philharmonic of Lithuania. Saulius Sondeckis was art director and chief conductor since its inception in 1960 until 2004. Violinist Sergei Krylov was appointed in 2008. Yehudi Menuhin has conducted his choral - orchestral works.

The LKO was the first Lithuanian orchestra with his debut in the West at the Echternach Festival in Luxembourg in 1976., The orchestra toured most European countries, including USA, Japan, Argentina, Cuba, Canada, Egypt, and South Africa. It was like the Musikverein in Vienna, Royal Festival in London, Santa Cecilia in Rome, Auditorium di Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and many other famous concert halls and festivals in Europe at the renowned worldwide.
