Lithuanian White (pig)

The Lithuanian White pig ( Lithuanian: Lietuvos Baltoji ) is a breed of pig from Lithuania.

Breeding history

The breed was created by crossing native Lithuanian sows with boars of the breeds Large White, Large White pig and German Landrace.

Characteristics

  • In color, appearance and type similar to the Large White
  • Weight 248 kg sows, boars 313 kg
  • Time to 100 kg: 174 days

There are 12 sire lines and 29 sows families. There are five separate breeding populations.

Occurrence

The main breeding centers are Baisogal, Draugas, Tschernjachowsk, Grižuva, Žemaitė and Mariampol in Lithuania. In addition, the Lithuanian White pigs in Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Moldova and Russia is bred into other breeds. In 1980, there were a total of 981 600 purebred animals.
