Little Cumbrae Castle

Little Cumbrae Castle is a tower house on the Scottish island of Iceland Castle in the Unitary Authority North Ayrshire. In 1971 the building was added to the Scottish lists of monuments in the highest category A monument. In addition, the facility is classified as a Scheduled Monument.

History

The building was probably built in the 15th century. However, there existed a previous building. Already in early times seems to have been subordinate to the Scottish royal house Little Cumbrae. Robert II lived in the castle in the years 1375 and 1384. The Tower House today preserved in 1653 by troops of Oliver Cromwell set on fire and has since become a ruin. Description
