Little Feat

The rock band Little Feat was founded in Los Angeles by Lowell George in 1969.

Band History

After Frank Zappa had his song Willin ' rejected, Lowell George had left along with Roy Estrada, the Mothers of Invention to form their own band. They hired Bill Payne and Richard Hayward convince them to participate.

Russ Titelman produced the 1971 debut Little Feat on which Ry Cooder was heard as a guest star. Neither the single nor the Hamburger Midnight album sold well, despite very good reviews. The second album Sailin 'Shoes 1972 flopped, although it was praised by critics. On both albums was listening to a combination of various styles of music from the southern United States.

Roy Estrada got out in 1972, for him came Kenny Gradney, Sam Clayton and Paul Barrere. The albums Dixie Chicken ( 1973) and Feats Do not Fail Me Now (1974 ) brought even more sales for the band. On Dixie Chicken, the band played country rock. On a European tour with the Doobie Brothers in 1975 you could clearly see how professional the band played. The genres ranged from country to blues to boogie. With The Last Record Album ( 1975) the band managed to finally break through. 1976 Little Feat toured again Europe, including also the opening act for the Rolling Stones.

On the 1977 LP Time Loves a Hero could be heard echoes of jazz rock. In the same year George had to undergo a drug Entzugskur. The double album Waiting for Columbus in 1978 presented the qualities of Little Feat as a live band. It is considered one of the best live albums of the 1970s, reaching sales of over one million first platinum. Even during the production of Down on the Farm (1979 ) George left the band that broke up then. Lowell George died on 29 June 1979 after a heart attack.

In 1981, Hoy Hoy! published, which offered both live recordings and studio productions.

1988 there was a reunion of Little Feat with Barrere, Clayton, Hayward, Payne, Gradney, Craig Fuller and Fred Tackett. Fuller's vocal qualities could not keep up with George on the LP Let It Roll 1988, also lacked the disk a certain originality. On Representing the Mambo (1990 ) Little Feat presented wonderful slide guitar sounds. The singer Shaun Murphy had already been listening to Let It Roll. In 1993 she replaced Craig Fuller as a permanent member of the group. The live qualities of the band had not subsided, as the 96 album Live From Neon Park proved. Moreover, even the studio albums Under the Radar (1998), Chinese Work Songs (2000 ) Kickin 'It at the Barn (2003) and Join the Band (2008) were published.

In February 2009, Shaun Murphy left the band. The drummer Richie Hayward was confronted in August 2009 with a diagnosis of liver cancer, he died in 2010. Haywards drum technician administration since Ford plays drums.
