Little Flowers of St. Francis

The Fioretti di San Francesco or little flowers of St. Francis are a registered divided into 53 short chapters Florilegium on the life of Francis of Assisi. The anonymous Italian text of the late 14th century, probably written by a Tuscan author, is a version of the Latin Actus beati Francisci et Sociorum eius, the oldest preserved manuscript dates from 1390. The Franciscan historian Luke Wadding (17th century) writes the text Fra Ugolino da Santa Maria to the person whose name appears three times in the Actus.

Since they were created long after the death of Francis of Assisi, the Fioretti are generally not a major source of his life, but have become the most popular collection of legends for a wide audience. Especially in the 19th and 20th century, the Fioretti was a widespread devotional book and have her sweet, inward and romanticized style the image of Francis in the population, but about Felix Timmermans Francis Roman ( 1932) and Roberto Rossellini's film " Francis, the jugglers of God "( 1950) strongly influenced.
