Little Orphan Annie

Little Orphan Annie ( Little Orphan Annie dt ) is the main character of the eponymous comic strip series, invented and drawn by Harold Gray and was first published on 5 August 1924. The name of the figure is a reference to the poem Little Orphant Annie by James Whitcomb Riley. Originally called Gray's character Little Orphan Otto, but was renamed on suggestion of his publisher Joseph Medill Patterson because it took the view that the main character should be a girl. The strips were soon spread across the country and the first albums released in the year 1926.
