Liu Bolin

Liu Bolin (Chinese刘勃麟/刘勃麟, Pinyin LIU Bolin ), ( born 1973 in Shandong Province in the People's Republic of China) is a Chinese photographer, sculptor and performance artist.

Life

Liu visited the Shandong Art Institute and graduated there in 1995 with a BA from. In 2001 he completed his sculpture studies at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing from the MFA.

Liu's first exhibitions followed in the years 1999 and 2001 in the Chinese "province". He then settled in the Beijing art district Suo Jia Cun, which was demolished by the city authorities for alleged lack of building permits in November 2005. After this event began Liu's international recognition with exhibitions of his series Hiding in the City, which has been demonstrated both in Beijing and in France, the United States and Italy. In this photo series, the artist adapts to the background so that his person and the background structure into each other on the photographs of these performances, such as the national flag of the People's Republic, a construction fence in Beijing or graffiti in the city. In June 2011, he gave at various locations in New York City in the background, so he posed for example in front of the bull on Wall Street in Manhattan.

Liu now lives and works (2011) in Beijing.
