Liu Sola

Liu Sola ( born 1955 in Beijing) is a Chinese composer, author and musician.

Life and work

She studied at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music Composition. Between 1988 and 2002 she lived first in London and later in New York, where she Ensemble Liu Sola & Friends founded in 1997. She created the first Chinese rock opera Blue Sky - Green Sea, which is based on her short story. Fantasy of the Red Queen, a chamber opera in six scenes, acts of Mao's wife Jiang Qing and was created in collaboration with the Frankfurt Ensemble Modern and had in May 2006 in Frankfurt premiere. In this piece, Liu Sola could also be heard in the lead role.

Liu Sola is not only composers, but also sings and writes successfully. My 1985 novel authored You have no choice made ​​in China sensation and in 1988 awarded the National Novel Award. Even more of her novels received several literary awards and been translated into several languages.

Currently, Liu Sola composed for the Theatre of Voice of the British conductor Paul Hillier, the chamber opera The Afterlife of LJT. Premiere will be in London in May 2009.
