Liu Zongyuan

Liu Zongyuan (* 773, † 819 ) was a scholar officials reformkonfuzianischer the Late Tang Dynasty.

Liu Zongyuans writings have a tendency of Buddhism critical Reformkonfuzianismus, which clung to some other representatives during his lifetime. Towards the end of the reign of Emperor Dezong there was criticism of the growth of the power of the minions of the Emperor, among whom were particularly many eunuchs. Around the turn of the century formed a group of reformers, led by Wang Shuwen and Wang Pi. Besides Li Yuxi Liu Zongyuan trailer was the demand for an administrative reform to bring about an end to the perceived as favoritism states. The death of Emperor Dezongs and the throne Shunzongs led the reform movement almost to success. But the new emperor was already marked by illness and died after eight months of government. His son, Emperor Xianzong, dismissed the reformers from office and banished from the capital Chang'an. Liu Zongyuan lived almost the entire rest of his life in Yongzhou. There he dealt with the writing of poems, which are counted among the most important of the Tang literature.
