Liubech

Ljubetsch (Ukrainian and Russian Любеч; Polish Lubecz ) is an urban-type settlement in the Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine with about 2,500 inhabitants (as of 2005), situated on the banks of the Dnieper. In times of Kievan Rus Ljubetsch was an important fortress and residence of the Princes of Kiev and Chernihiv.

Administratively, the settlement is divided in addition to the main town yet in the village Kukari ( Кукарі ) and the settlement Hirky ( Гірки ).

History

The city was first mentioned in 882.
