Liudolf of Lotharingia

Liudolf, often Ludolf von Brauweiler († April 11, 1031 ) was bailiff of the abbey brewing Weiler, heir to the rule Waldenburg and by his marriage Lord of Zutphen. He was an imperial general, standard bearer and probably Vogt of Cologne.

Life

Liudolf was the eldest son of Ezzo, Count Palatine of Lorraine from the House of Ezzonen, and Matilda of Saxony, making it the oldest grandson of Emperor Otto II from the House of Liudolfinger.

He married Matilda of Zutphen, daughter of Otto von Zutphen, which put him in their ancestral property in Twente and Westphalia into the marriage, which included advocacies in the Diocese of Münster and in the pen Borg Horst. Their children were:

  • Henry, † after October 31, 1031
  • Konrad ( Kuno ), † in 1053 in Hungary, probably on December 15, 1031 Vogt Abbey Brauweiler, 1049/53 Duke of Bavaria, deposed, buried in St. Maria ad Gradus in Cologne; ∞ 1036 Judith of Schweinfurt, daughter of Margrave Otto ( Schweinfurt ), married his second wife of Count Botho pot stone, † March 1, 1104 ( Aribonen )
  • Adelheid, 1059 testifies heiress of her brother Konrad; ∞ Gottschalk of Zutphen

The marriage Liudolf and Mathilde was under critical sign, since Mathilde a child of Hammersteiner marriage was of Zutphen, the daughter of Otto von Zutphen and Hammerstein and Ermengarde of Verdun and thus from 1018 to 1027 is likely to have been regarded as illegitimate - a blemish, which in this time then stretched on Liudolf.

Liudolf died three years before his father, and was buried in the family grave lay in Brauweiler monastery.
