Live at Montreux 1981

Live at Montreux 1981 is a live recording of the live performance of Mike Oldfield, recorded in July 1981, which was marketed, therefore, only 25 years later in 2006. Oldfield used its appearance among other things, to promote his then new album QE2; this promotional tour began in December 1980 in Sweden and also included two appearances in Germany.

Founded in 1967, The Montreux Jazz Festival attracts hundreds of fans yearly; the list of artists who appeared there may have as diverse and well-known names such as Johnny Cash, Ray Charles or Joe Cocker.

Musician

In contrast to earlier and later concerts with larger ensembles Oldfield appeared in a six-person cast in Montreux. Mike Frye and Morris Pert on the drums, Rick Fenn on classical guitar, percussion and bass, and Tim Cross supplemented on keyboards Mike Oldfield, who played acoustic guitar, mandolin and keyboards among others. Singer Maggie Reilly was also working with Oldfield later often together, for example in the hit Moonlight Shadow (1983).

Title

As all pieces had to be rewritten for a five - piece ensemble, the individual interpretations differ sometimes very strongly from the album versions. Ommadawn contains a five-minute drum solo.
