Livia (gens)

The Livii (Latin gens Livia or Livii ) was a Roman Plebejerfamilie. She came from Lazio and joined one of the first Latin families 338 BC to the Roman citizenship on. The father of Marcus Livius applies, Accomodations, the 302 BC Consul. Already in 324 BC there was a Livius Drusus as Magister equitum, who founded the rise of the family and the main branch of Drusi. This epithet should go back to the Celts wars. Since the 3rd century BC, there was a close relationship between the Liviern and Aemilii, one of the oldest patrician families of Rome.

Marcus Livius Salinator is considered the second founder of the gens. From him the branches of Drusi and Salina door went out. In both lines consist mainly of the praenomen Marcus and Gaius. After the death of Marcus Livius Drusus the Younger, the family secured their survival through adoptions, primarily by Claudian and perhaps Scriboniern.
