Livingston Parish, Louisiana

The Livingston Parish (French: Paroisse de Livingston ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 128 026 inhabitants and a population density of 76.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Livingston.

The Livingston Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge.

Geography

The Parish is located in southeastern Louisiana, is located in the north about 35 miles from Mississippi and has an area of 1820 square kilometers, of which 142 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following Parishes:

History

The Livingston Parish was formed in 1832 from parts of St. Helena Parish. It was named after Edward Livingston (1764-1836), a former foreign minister of the United States.

The administrative center was originally located in the now-defunct City Van Buren and was moved in 1835 to Springfield. 1871 Port Vincent became the seat of Perish management. Ten years later, another move, Centerville was now the new Parish Seat. In 1941 they decided on the present site of the Government in Livingston.
