Livio Berruti

Livio Berruti ( born May 19, 1939 in Turin ) is an Italian former athlete.

Life

Despite the size of 1.88 m was Berruti competition weight only 66 kg. His greatest achievement was winning the Olympic gold medal in the 200 - meter race on September 3, 1960 in Rome.

Berruti ran on the same day already in the semi-final 20.5 seconds ( 20,65 ), which meant the leveling of the world record for a circular path with full curve at that time. At the 100 -meter run Berruti did not participate in Rome. His personal best over this distance he achieved on 26 May 1960 in Verona with 10.2 seconds ( handgestoppt ).

After his Olympic victory, he could not quite match these services, but reached only European in the final of the Olympic Games in 1964 in Tokyo in 20.8 seconds 5th place winner was Henry Carr (USA) in 20.3 seconds.
