Liz Torres
Liz Torres ( born September 25, 1947 in New York as Elizabeth Torres) is an American actress, singer and comedienne.
Private life
Torres ' parents came originally from Puerto Rico, but immigrated to New York and settled there in the Bronx. There Torres also completed her schooling. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Career
She began her career as a comedienne and singer in small New York night clubs where they the musician Barry Manilow shared with her friend Bette Midler as a companion. Her breakthrough was in 1971 when she was discovered by the producer of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show during one of her performances. This offered her a stand - up comedy appearance on the show. Afterwards, she starred in several comedy shows, such as: All In The Family, Ally McBeal or The Nanny.
Her first film appearance was Torres in 1969 when she starred in a low budget movie called Utterly Without Redeeming Social Value a prostitute. After that, she played a variety of roles in over 50 films and had more than 100 guest appearances on television.
In 1990 she was nominated for her performance in the role of Angie in the television series The Famous Teddy Z for an Emmy Award and received a Bravo Award for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Comedy Series. In 1993 she presented the Mahalia Sanchez is in The John Larroquette Show and was again nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award. Also Liz was nominated female artist for TV two American Comedy Awards in the category Best.
Liz Torres, however, was to continue to see on stage. She played on Broadway in The Ritz, among other things, Man of La Mancha and House of Blue.
Torres was also successful as an RCA recording artist, gave a command performance for Morocco 's King Hussan II and was invited by President Carter to 'America 's First National Hispanic Week Celebration' at the White House. All this in addition to their performances in nightclubs, her one -woman show and working with stars like Liza Minnelli and Tony Bennett.
From 2000 it belonged to the ensemble series Gilmore Girls, where she played the dance teacher Patricia LaCosta aka Miss Patty. The role of ex -Broadway dancer who divorced four times and is more interested in the small town rumors, than on large gigs she played until the end of the series in 2007.
