Lizz Wright

Lizz Wright ( born January 22, 1980 in Hahira, Georgia ) is an American jazz singer.

Biography

Wright was the daughter of a preacher. As a child she sang in the choir of her father and took piano lessons. At 14, she began to be interested in gospel, jazz and blues music. After her high school graduation, Wright took on vocal studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta, which she continued in New York and Vancouver.

2000 Wright member of the vocal ensemble in the Spirit, and quickly became known. After she attended a Billie Holiday Memorial Competition, her a record deal Verve Music Group in 2002 offered.

In 2003, Wright's debut album Salt, which helped her to break through. It not only reached # 4 on the jazz album charts in the United States, and in Europe it was so in the charts. Her second, equally successful album Dreaming Wide Awake followed in 2005. During 2008, the third album The Orchard appeared. Both came in the top 3 of the U.S. jazz charts. Lizz Wright was experiencing in April 2008 on a first concert tour in Germany, 2011 at the Berlin Jazz Festival; In 2012 she gave concerts in Germany. In addition to her own projects, Wright worked again and again along with other artists such as, inter alia, Joe Sample, Danilo Perez, Kip Hanrahan and David Sanborn. In November 2013, she toured as opening act for Gregory Porter by Germany.
