Ljubljana International Film Festival

The Ljubljana International Film Festival (short: LIFFe, Slovenian: Ljubljanski mednarodni Filmski festival ) takes place annually since 1990 in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. With around 50,000 visitors annually, it is one of the largest film festivals in the country.

By 1996, organized under the name of Film Art Festival Ljubljana, the international festival specialized from the beginning to artistically ambitious films that were not previously seen in Slovenia in the cinema. To that end, award-winning films of major festivals such as Cannes, Venice and Rotterdam are invited. The program can be found next to movies and documentaries, animation and short films. During the festival, which offers workshops, seminars and exhibitions - including in collaboration with the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television - instead.

Main venue and at the same organizer of the festival is opened in 1981 Culture and Congress Centre Cankarjev dom. In addition, multiple movie theaters are played in downtown.

The main prize of the festival is called Vodomec ( international name: Kingfisher Award). He has been awarded since 1996 by an international jury to the best first or second film and is endowed with 5,000 euros. Vodomec is the Slovenian word for kingfisher. The prize awarded since 2000 Audience Award Zlati kolu ( international name: Golden Reel Award ) is the distribution of the winning film in Slovenia. In addition, since 2004 a FIPRESCI award of the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique and awarded Award since 2005, the Amnesty International Film Festival.
