Ljubostinja

The monastery Ljubostinja ( Serbian Cyrillic Манастир Љубостиња ) is a Serbian Orthodox monastery in Trstenik in Serbia. It belongs to the group of churches in the Serbian -Byzantine style of the Morava school.

Ljubostinja means " the love of life in the desert."

History

The monastery was founded in 1388 by Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović shortly before the battle of Kosovo Polje. According to legend, he founded the monastery at the place where he met for the first time Princess Milica Hrebeljanović.

During the battle, the prince was killed and Milica appeared as a nun in the convent Ljubostinja with the widows of slain soldiers. She spent her final years in the monastery where also her grave is located.

The first poet of Serbia, Jefimija ( Jelena ), companion of Milica died there 1405th She completed there in 1402, the praise of Prince Lazar.
