Etymology

In a parchment certificate of 1412 a Fisheries / a fisherman from the parish Haverö in Norrtälje is mentioned for the first time. According to the charter fishing Oghnaroos said. The suffix -os means as much as estuary or connection. The -ar in the middle is actually a Genitivendsilbe, which indicates the location of the fishing on the river Oghn in this case. From this ancient syllable -ar developed in the course of time, the Swedish words å (German: Bach / river / water ) or älv (English: River ). Both words are also related to the German syllable Ache.

The Old Norse word Oghn or OGN means as much as anxiety, fear or terror, which is found in modified form in the word Ljungan in the suffix - gan. Considering the name of the fisheries of the instrument and the word Ljungan it was concluded that there must be at the river Oghn to the Ljungan. Thus, the Ljungan was first documented in 1412 and is mentioned about the Terrible or The Fertile.

Since the name Ljungan was created over centuries, is not to be assumed that he is related to the Swedish words Ljung ( heath / heather ) or Ljungeld ( flash) and are therefore not similar something like The luminous flux means.
