Løkta

Løkta is a Norwegian island at the mouth of Ranfjords in Fylke Nordland. The 17.3 km ² island is the second largest, which belongs to the municipality Dønna.

The island's name probably comes from the Old Norse term luka, the close (compare Norwegian: lukke ) means. Since Løkta located at the outer end of the Ranfjords, the island includes quasi him.

History

In the 19th and early 20th century, a combination of agriculture and fishing was the main basis. Later, people specialized, the importance of fisheries declined. Thanks a granite vein of Kopardal and Sandvik to Horn began in the early 19th century, the mining of stone, which was used as a building material for houses.

With the islands Dønna and Sandnessjøen Løkta is connected by Kopardal by ferry. A speedboat connects it regularly with Nesna.
