Llanelli RFC

The Llanelli Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club that plays in the Welsh Premier Division. The home games are played at Parc Y Scarlets.

History

The club was founded in 1872. One of the founding fathers, John Rogers, had the sport in its birthplace, the Rugby School met. Due to lack of competition, it took until 1876 until the first match against Swansea could be discharged. Venue was the People's Park in Llanelli. 1879, the Club moved to the Stradey Park, where usually Cricket games were played. The first game at Stradey Park was held on November 29, 1879 against Neath, the oldest rugby club Wales ' instead. By the year 1884, the team changed more frequently the jersey colors until they stayed in Scarlet (English " scarlet" ). Since then, Llanelli is known as "The Scarlets ".

Llanelli has in its history against numerous teams, including Australia, New Zealand and South Africa played and beaten them down to South Africa. The club traveled among others Germany, France and the U.S. to play matches against clubs and national teams of countries there. 14 players of the club have made it to the roster of British and Irish Lions, 18 were captains of the Welsh national team.

In 2003, the Welsh Rugby Union decided to form five regional teams that were each composed of the existing clubs. The Llanelli RFC has since become part owner of the Scarlets.

Since 2008, played at the Parc Y Scarlets. From the 2009/10 season the club at the British and Irish Cup, will take part in a competition for second-rate clubs.
