Llano del Hato National Astronomical Observatory

The Observatorio Nacional de Llano del Hato Astronómico is an observatory in Venezuela, operated by the Centro de Investigaciones de Astronomia ( CIDA). It is located in the Andes in 3600 meters altitude above the village of Llano del Hato fifty kilometers northeast of the city of Mérida. The observatory houses four telescopes, each in its own cathedral. A large refractor and a reflector telescope from Zeiss and the world's fifth largest Schmidt camera and a double astrographs the company Askania These instruments were purchased in 1954 by the Government of Venezuela and installed in the early 1970s in the observatory.
