Lloyd Austin

Lloyd James Austin III. ( Born August 8, 1953 in Thomasville, Georgia ) is a general in the U.S. Army, and since March 2013 Commander of the U.S. Central Command.

Life

Austin is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Army War College. In addition, he attended the universities Webster and Auburn.

He's since March 2013 Commander of the U.S. Central Command. previously he was from 2006 to 2009 Commanding General of the XVIII. Airborne Corps and of the base Fort Bragg in North Carolina. From 2008 to 2009 he presented with his corps also the Multi- National Corps Iraq ( MNC -I), and was thus directly to the commander of coalition forces in Iraq (Multi- National Force Iraq ), General Raymond T. Odierno assumed. Austin was responsible for the operations of about 150,000 soldiers.

On 9 July 2009 he was nominated for the post of Director of the Joint Staff. In September 2009, he handed over the command of the XVIII. U.S. Airborne Corps Lieutenant General Frank G. Helmick and took over the post of Director of the Joint Staff.

In October 2010, Austin took over from Raymond T. Odierno the post of commander of United States Forces Iraq, in January 2012 he was appointed Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. Since March 22, 2013 Austin commanded the U.S. Central Command.
