Lloyd Cutler

Lloyd Norton Cutler ( born November 10, 1917 in New York City; † May 8, 2005 in Washington, DC) was an American lawyer.

Cutler reached in 1936 with 18 years of a bachelor's degree in history from Yale and three years later graduated from Yale Law School. He was also editor of the Yale Law Journal. Subsequently he worked for a Wall Street firm before he entered government service and was involved in the drafting of the Lend-Lease Act. Later he worked for the intelligence service of the army.

After the end of World War II Cutler opened with former colleagues from Washington own law firm. There was, among other government officials granted legal aid to victims of persecution by Senator Joseph McCarthy were. 1979 appointed him U.S. President Jimmy Carter to his legal counsel ( White House Counsel ). He advised him, among others, at the SALT II disarmament negotiations with the Soviet Union.

After Carter left office in 1981, Cutler to care about their own law firm. In 1994 he returned once for a short time back to the post of White House Counsel under Bill Clinton. He advised the President, among others, in the Whitewater affair.
