Lloyd Wheaton Bowers

Lloyd Wheaton Bowers ( born March 9, 1859 in Springfield, Massachusetts, † September 9, 1910 in Boston, Massachusetts) was an American lawyer and United States Solicitor General.

Biography

After school he studied 1875-1879 at Yale University and earned a Bachelor of Arts there (BA). During this time he also became a member of the fraternity Skull & Bones. A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School of Columbia University, he finished in 1882. Subsequently, he worked as a lawyer and first employee and then from 1882 to 1884 Partner of the law firm of Chamberlain, Carter & Hornblower. Later he was 1893-1909 Chief Adviser of the railway company Chicago and North Western Railway.

In April 1909, Lloyd Bowers was appointed by U.S. President William Howard Taft to the Solicitor General. Bowers was a longtime political ally, colleague and confidant of the president-elect. He held the third most important position in the Ministry of Justice of the United States until his death in September 1910.

On October 17, 1914 his daughter Martha married Robert A. Taft, the son of William Howard Taft.
