LMX Sirex

LMX 2300 HCS

The LMX 2300 HCS was a sports coupe of the Milan manufacturer LMX Automobiles. The Turin Carrozzeria Euro style was much involved in the construction of vehicles.

Idea

The vehicle was unveiled in 1968 as a prototype at the Turin Motor Show. At the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris in 1969 was the time allotted for the series production version of the coupe. During the Turin Motor Show of that year or at the Geneva Motor Show 1969, the open version, Spider was called, was presented.

Vehicle description

Chassis

The vehicle had a central support chassis, independent suspension, and many parts from Ford. Thus, the front suspension of the Ford 20M and the rear suspension came from the Ford Zodiac Mk IV

Body

The designed by Franco Scaglione body of the combi coupe consisted of fiberglass, only the steel doors. Striking was the broad B-pillar and the particularly large, frameless rear window into the tailgate. A special feature of that time was the use of an adhesive from Loctite for securing the steel hinges of the rear window. The Convertible also a hardtop was available. Both versions offered space for two people.

Engine and transmission

In the prototype, a V6 engine of Ford with 2000 cc engine capacity was installed. In the standard models, a larger V6 engine of Ford was used. The engine with OHV valve control cylinder had the dimensions 90 mm bore and 60.14 mm stroke. This results in a displacement of approximately 2300 cm ³ revealed. The engine power was given with 108 hp DIN standard and 126 to 128 hp according to SAE standard.

On request the engine power could be brought on by a 180 hp Constantin single-stage low-pressure compressor. Later, the engine was also offered with a turbocharger of May and 210 hp.

The engine was front mounted in the vehicle and drove through a propeller shaft to the rear axle. The gearbox had four speeds.

The work was at the maximum design speed of 200 km / h and fuel consumption of 14 liters per 100 km.

End of production and number

LMX produced this model until 1972 or 1973. Successor was the Sirex LMS by SAMAS. Some sources indicate that along 43 copies were produced by both models; which 20 of the Sirex LMS. Other sources give 50 copies of the LMX 2300 HCS plus 20 Sirex LMS. Some sources indicate that the convertible remained a one piece, others write a few copies.
