Loarre Castle

The Castillo de Loarre is a castle in Loarre, a municipality in the province of Huesca Aragon the Autonomous Region (Spain ), which was built from the 11th to the 13th century. The castle, located high above the town, is a listed building ( Bien de Interès Cultural ).

History and Description

Its history begins in the early 11th century, when Sancho Ramírez, founded by King of Aragon, an Augustinian Canons. The single-nave church of Santa María with domed apse and Romanesque crypt is the oldest part of the plant.

The castle served as a residence in the 12th century, has a three-storey main tower and a smaller tower, called the Tower of the Queen. A double wall with eight round towers surrounding the plant.
