Loayza Province

Loayza is one of twenty provinces of the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia, located in the southeastern portion of the department. She bears her name in honor of General and Bolivian Vice President José Ramón Loayza.

Location

The province is located southeast of Lake Titicaca and comprises the area between the Cordilleras of the Serranía de Sicasica in the west and the Cordillera Quimsa Cruz in the east. It is bordered on the north by the Sud Yungas Province and the province Murillo, on the west by the province of flavor, to the south by the department of Oruro, and on the east by the province Inquisivi.

The province extends between about 16 ° 35 'and 17 ° 27' south latitude and 67 ° 16 ' and 68 ° 00'W, it measures from north to south and 90 kilometers from east to west and 65 kilometers.

The literacy rate in the province is 84.8 percent, and 91.3 percent, although in men and 78.1 percent for women.

76.9 percent of the population speak Spanish, 91.2 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 0.3 percent. (2001)

76.8 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 83.2 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

69.1 percent of households have a radio, 10.2 percent have a television, 17.6 percent a bicycle, a motorcycle 1.1 percent, 2.5 percent a car, a refrigerator 0.7 percent, 0.3 percent phone. (2001)

76.7 percent of the population are Catholics, 17.0 percent are Protestant (1992).
