Lobbes is a municipality in the province of Hainaut ( Hainault ) in the Walloon region of Belgium. It lies on the River Sambre.

The municipality comprises the towns of Lobbes, Bienne- lez- Happart, Mont -Saint -Geneviève and Sars- la- Buissière.

History

The village grew up around the famous Abbey Lobbes, in the years 650-654 by Saint Crespin Landelin founded by Benedictine monastery, of which only ruins remain today.

The site was also known by the battle between the French and Austrians on 24 May in 1794.

Worth seeing

Interesting is the year-round Honey and Bee Museum, where every Sunday " open day " with honey extraction and tasting is.
