Lobelia subpubera

Lobelia subpubera is a plant of the genus Lobelia within the family of Bellflower Family. It occurs in Ecuador.

Description

Lobelia subpubera reaches a height 3-10 centimeters. The stem is hairy or smooth with shorter stolons. The lower leaves are spatulate or lanceolate. They are 10 mm long, 3-5 mm wide. The leaf blade is pointed and narrowed at the base into a short 2-4 mm long petiole. The leaf margin is serrated callous. The upper leaf surface is hairy, the lower leaf surface smooth. The upper leaves are lanceolate to linear, sessile. The terminal clusters have few flowers. The flower stems are about as long as the bracts with 4-6 mm. The flower cups wound. The sharp pointed sepals are 3-4 mm long. The 10 mm long ciliated corolla is bluish. The flowering period is from April to May

Habitat

Lobelia subpubera grows on the Páramos at altitudes between 3,500 to 4,000 m.

Status

Lobelia subpubera severe threat from habitat destruction. There are only known two subpopulations. The first is at the volcano Cotopaxi within the Parque Nacional Cotopaxi, the second is located in the vicinity of the Lagunas de Atillo ( Atillo Lake) within the Parque Nacional Sangay in the province of Chimborazo.
