Lobi people

The Lobi (also called Lobi Dagara ) are one in southern Burkina Faso and northern Ghana and the Ivory Coast living ethnicity. Their language belongs to the same group of Gur or Volta languages. The Lobi migrated in the 18th century from the area of present-day Ghana in their current areas of life and have changed only in the last decades of hunters and fishermen to farmers.

The Lobi are known for their differing from the neighboring peoples clay building architecture. They live in Sukalas, surrounded by a high mud wall Familienkraals. Individual Sukalas are usually at least an arrow shot away from each other. This defensive capability has led to the influences of Muslim and Christian missionaries and cultural influences of neighboring peoples were more repulsed than most other ethnic groups in West Africa.
