Lochaber axe

In the Lochaber - ax, originated at the beginning of the 16th century, is the most popular Scottish variant of the battle-ax. On a five foot ( 154.2 cm) long handle was a tough to 2 to 2.5 kg ax blade attached, either through a grommet or two rings. Most oak was used for the handle of the weapon.

In addition to the known use as a slashing weapon you could stab with the pointed head also. By the hook on the back of the blade, the ax could be used as a foothold when climbing a wall or pull the opponent off his horse during a cavalry attack.
